Licks, Flicks, and Amazons
by Michael Arnzen ~ March 31st, 2006![]() | Random updates… I’ve started to post messages to a new weblog I’ll intermittently keep on Amazon.com. New entries will pop up on my book pages, or you can find me on their Author’s Directory. Or you can just leap right to it by reading my first entry. Novello Publishers have announced that they’ll be publishing my novella, Licker, later this Fall, in a limited edition chapbook. Licker will be a humorous horror story about a boy who is having some very bizarre problems with his tongue. I think this is likely to be the funniest, weirdest, sickest thing I’ve ever written. I’ll share news as it develops. I’m also working on a new story for a book called Monster Noir, a story collection coming soon from Nyx Books. All the tales in Monster Noir will take place in a city called Nyxon, which is where the cinematic monsters of our collective memory reside. My piece is about an amusement park on the outskirts of town, called “Exorcystland.” Not to be confused with the “real” Exorcistland in Iraq. I’ll tell you more about it as the book approaches publication, but editor Steve Savile tells me that it’s okay to give you a sneak peek at one of the tentative cover sketches for the book (On your left…pretty cool, no? They’ve got a lot more planned…just you wait!) |
Bits of Insistent Terror
by Michael Arnzen ~ March 7th, 2006Some bits and bites of news…
The new dark poetry webzine, Spiderwords, has posted a fantastic review of my Fairwood Press chapbook, Gorelets: Unpleasant Poems. Reviewer Geoffrey Goodwin writes:
In eleven lines or less, no line greater than eight words, Arnzen has created bite-sized bits of insistent terror…these poems are definitive and powerful
Grimoire Grimaces
by Michael Arnzen ~ March 7th, 2006
An incredible book arrived in my mailbox the other day — my author’s copy of the “Grim Grimoire” sculpture-bound edition of Play Dead. You have to touch it (but watch your fingers) to really feel how cool this thing is, but you can get an idea of how cool it is at the Raw Dog Screaming Press website. It even comes complete with a custom-designed deck of cards! I know that a few early adopters have received their copies — each of which is handmade and thus delivered a bit slowly — but this collectible book will likely be priced around $180 and only be available from the booksellers who have placed advanced orders. I don’t know if you’ll be able to get one before it sells out, so all I can say is keep your eyes peeled. (A paring knife ought to do the trick quite nicely).
Rumor has it that the custom card set may be made available for sale separately, since the demo was such a hit at World Fantasy Convention last November. I’ll let you know.
