Licker Launch Party

by Michael Arnzen ~ October 17th, 2006

Licker coverThe “Licker Launch Party” chat online, hosted on 10/19 by The Lost and The Damned community, was a lot of fun. People asked nutty questions, I gave nutty answers, and people won free copies of my books.

Licker from what I hear, is selling quite briskly in preorders. You can get your copy signed if you order from Shocklines Bookstore now! It should arrive well before Halloween.

Fictionwise Halloween Special

by Michael Arnzen ~ October 17th, 2006

Fictionwise E-Books is offering a great 25% discount on every horror and dark fantasy e-book they sell on their site. It’s a good chance to get my hard-to-find titles cheap. And this week they’re offering a 100% rebate on preorders of Stephen King’s new novel, Lisey’s Story!

(E-books are great on PDAs, but Fictionwise offers a number of different formats. It’s a great site because you can also get individual short-stories by popular writers, often for under 50 cents.)

There’s a Reason Why Zombies Drag Their Feet

by Michael Arnzen ~ October 8th, 2006

Wanna hear something pretty cool? Head on over to the Halloween Poetry Readings by the Science Fiction Poetry Association. You can hear me perform “Why Zombies Lumber” (from my book, Rigormarole) with creepy musical accompaniment. Other poets you can listen to include David Lee Summers, Karen A. Romanko, David C. Kopaska-Merkel, and C. A. Gardner.

Happy Halloween!

Licker Launch Party

by Michael Arnzen ~ October 2nd, 2006

To be published in a limited edition of 150 paperback copies by Novello Publishers, LICKER is a new comedic horror novelette about a boy with a hallucinogenic tongue…and the strange people who want a taste of the action.

In an early review, Horror World’s Nate Kenyon calls it an “over-the-top, gross-out laugh riot….Arnzen clearly had a lot of fun in trying to outdo himself, from the very first paragraph all the way to the last.” Peter Straub says it’s “beyond over the top…Licker violates every possible notion of good taste, gleefully, and the result is an optimistic graveyard fandango.” And D. Harlan Wilson writes, “Mike Arnzen is the chicest, craftiest horror writer in the Biz, and Licker is among the best in his library. Devilish, bizarre and irreverent, this book has everything: an insatiable plot, fingerlicking prose, and characters who will eat your heart out with a wooden spoon! Arnzen has imagination pouring out of every orifice.”

This is, bar none, the WEIRDEST thing I’ve ever written, and I blush to admit I laughed out loud even when I proofread the thing. The cover art alone will disturb you. Definitely not for the squeamish. Definitely freaky.

The book includes a bonus flash fiction story, an introduction by Jeff Strand, and more. Want a lick? Licker will be shipping on Halloween. But it is now available for preorder from Shocklines.com — the only place selling signed copies — for just $10. (In fact, I’m happy to report the book was a Shocklines bestseller when it was first announced!)

To wet your whistle, the Lost and Damned messageboards is hosting the LICKER LAUNCH PARTY in an online chat with me on Thursday, OCTOBER 19th at 10PM eastern time. We’ll talk about anything. A few various books will be given away free in a random draw to those who are in the chatroom, so come drop by and say hello!

Halloween is coming up soon and Horror-Web is doing a great thing to get you in the mood early: they’re generously publishing a Halloween story by a popular horror author every day of the month, for their special new “Creepy Hollow” dark holiday page.

Update: My short story, “The Boblin,” was posted on 10/19! And they’ve got lots and lots of Halloween tricks and treats in store for you all over their site. Check it out.
